Dropbox

So today I finally got a chance to try out the beta version of Dropbox. I must say I had honestly forgotten about it when I had first applied for a beta key months ago. To put it in simple terms, Dropbox is an application that you can use to backup, share, edit your data. It’s an application that works online, much like your personal server which can be accessed from anywhere. You have a 2gb limit, when you first start the application you will see pre-defined folders; photos, public etc. The best part about this tool is that, you can add as many computers to your ’share’, and be able to upload each document, picture from pretty much anywhere. You also have the possiblity of sharing, your files with friends or if they don’t have a dropbox account you can easily send them a link to your photo folder for easy viewing. If you want a much more detailed overview of dropbox head to https://www.getdropbox.com/. As I said before dropbox is still in it’s beta phase and if you like what you see then give me a shout, as I have 9 beta invites left.

Earth Hour 2008

Was checking my email, and noticed this interesting link sent to me by my friend. Some people might of heard of Earth Hour, basically it’s a movement against global warming. Where the lights in a city are turned off for an hour. Have a look at the site, I think it speaks for itself.

Sony tech support

I was casually browsing the Sony website when something stuck my mind. I have always wanted to have a dual boot system installed on my sony vaio laptop. However due to sony’s strict and ‘noncomplying’ policies they always tend to make things harder for someone who wants to do more with their their laptop rather then just keep it simple. In this case, I am talking about ‘how to create partitions with the OEM Vista install?’. I must admit, I have never done it before, and I’ve searched all over the net on how to go about it, to no avail. So I decided to test out the Sony online - web chat. For two reasons; firstly to see if it would infested by stupid and redundant bots? Secondly to see if someone would actually respond and try to help me out? This is what I was in stock for, read ahead to see the outcome. If your impatient then scroll down where you see the highlighted text.

Nitin >
You see the main thing is that, I am want to install a dual boot my system( linux, plus vista) however, the problem is that. Since there is no installation cd provided with my laptop, there is no possible way for me to make partitions and install to separate operation systems.

Nitin >
I would appreciate it if, you could put me in touch with a vaio support member.

Michael_>
Please wait, while the problem is escalated to another analyst

Nitin, the OEM Version of Operating System shipped with the Computer does not require any installation key.

Nitin >
I am aware off that fact, the problem is I want to do a dual boot on my system. I can’t actually proceed with it, without any sort of installaion for vista.

Nitin >
Infact, I am not quite sure how to actually make a dual boot using a OEM install of vista.

Nitin >
I hope you understand what I am trying to say?

Bradley_>
Nitin, I’m sorry to inform you that the VAIO Computer are not recommended for dual boot of Operating System .

Nitin >
Aha I see, I don’t wish to be rude, how is that so?

I forgot to copy the rest of the conversation, but here is a gist of what happened next. So this technical dude, thinks he is being all so techie and smart. However when I asked me him ‘ how is that so?’. He quickly changed the topic, by asking me stupid and irrelevant questions such as. ‘Can you please tell me your sony vaio latop model number’? What the hell, what has that got to do with my laptop, even though I had already confirmed it when joining the chatroom. Not to mention that these guys were really slow and would take ages at replying back. I asked him, what has this got to do with my question, whilst trying to remain calm. He wouldn’t reply back, and so I gave up. Just said, thank you and quit. Seriously, why do they hire people who have no knowledge of what they are talking about?
